Sixbeds in Rome

Thursday, November 27th, 2008

Sixbeds is a bed and breakfast in Rome, located in Via Carlo Alberto 63

Sixbeds is a just restored 4th floor airy flat, with large and high walls, located in an ‘800 building, in via Carlo Alberto, in the heart of Rome. Few minutes walking from Colosseum (0,5 miles), Roman Forum (0,6 miles), Domus Aurea (0,4 miles), Michelangelo’s Moses (0,4 miles), the Lateran (0,7 miles), Basilica of Santa Maria Maggiore (0,1 miles). Actually, you can visit by walk all the city, from SIXBEDS. We manage tourism jobs in Rome with proud love since 1995, and we’ll suggest you the best walk-paths to enjoy Rome, even without using once a bus.

Nevertheless, if you really dislike to walk, just get out from the front door, and enter the subway station "Vittorio Emauele" (15 feet ahead the door!). Subway is really cheap (1 €, no matter how long you run) and allows you to reach every important point of the city centre, i.e.: Piazza di Spagna in 5 minutes, Vatican in 9 minutes, the Lateran 2 minutes, Pyramid 10 minutes, Basilica of St. Paul extra muros 12 minutes. You can even use subway to get to the beach (45 minutes), or to the archeological ruins of the ancient roman harbour Ostia (50 minutes).

Main train station "Termini" is also very close (0,3 miles, or 2 minutes by subway). From this station, the biggest one in Italy, it’s easy to reach Naple, Florence, Pisa, Venice, and quite all Italian towns. Frequent trains run regularly to the international airports "Leonardo Da Vinci" (Fiumicino – FCO, in 45 minutes, ticket 11,00 €) and "Pastine" (Ciampino – CPO, in about 20 minutes, ticket 6,00 €).

Location is nice and life-plenty, just on the top of Colle Esquilino (one of the famous seven hills). Roman nobleman Mecenas built his gorgeous villa here; today, people from all over the world here walk, work, and enjoy. Events, concerts and festivals occur very often in the park of next square (piazza Vittorio), few steps away. All around, dozens of stalls sell flowers. Shops, supermarkets, snack-bars, the most inexpensive discount in Italy ("MAS"), and many little coloured and happy knick-knackery shops surround the area. Well, come here. You’ll save money, even in buying souvenirs!

Other than Sixbeds, you can browse our offers for other accommodations in Rome, from cheap to luxury, togheter with Tours all over Italy; tourist information about Italy can be found on World 66

Publicity Through Philanthropy For Writers

Wednesday, November 26th, 2008

I am twenty three years old, have sold over four thousand copies of my first book in a matter of a month after it’s release and recently been contacted for contracts with Random House and Harper Collins for two new titles. I think a good deal of my recent success is highly correlated with my Reading for Charity Contest and the attention it has drawn. I’ll explain the entire background, but as pre-thought I think it first manifested itself through a combination of my looking for a good way to market my first book, while balancing out my karma a bit. A way to interweave my love of novel writing, increase my book’s visibility and provide a benefit to society in some way shape or form. All of these tasks have seemed to be accomplished- although my karma could still probably use some more balancing.

What is the Reading for Charity Contest?: Over sixty organizations, a group of corporate sponsors, and a handful of volunteers are the result of the charity contest. I took my very recently published book and decided to give away a certain percentage of it’s profits to charity. There was a catch though, the charity I will give my book profits to is being voted on, by the readers. So once you read my book, you can go to my webpage or find me at one of my book tours and vote for your favorite cause and the highest voted cause receives the profits (Which should be quite a bit). That was the reading for charity contests basic beginning. It’s the focal point of everything else that now surrounds the contest and of course my book. The contest was than expanded on by a few different means which, furthered the accomplishment of my goals.

1) Rather than your basic book tours I turned my book tours into a way to highlight the organizations participating in the contest. I have a large stand representing all of the participating organizations with their information and donation cards. Next came along a couple of benefit events- a silent auction, a couple of benefit dinners etc… Things that were really quite easy to put together, but could have a great benefit for the charity groups I was working with. Now this may seem like a good deal of work, which it was, but the benefits for the organizations had been huge, and the benefits for me personally has been equally spectacular.

The benefits all of this had for me: I was able to get involved with over sixty non-profit organizations and use my book and contest as a way to highlight their efforts and eventually provide them with a financial benefit as well. There is no truer statement that giving is a two way street. In return for my help with the organizations the organizations did their best to help out me. I am featured with my book in over fifty non-profit newsletters, on a large number of webpages, as well as postings and fliers from the organizations. Some organizations have newsletters with readers in the ten of thousands. It is equivalent to being featured in fifty newspapers across the country that are targeted directly to the reader.

2) The book tours are not only philanthropic, but also bring in a good deal of people and create a lot of buzz. After some attention a number of companies offered to sponsor the events. I was able to receive all of my marketing material for my book and contest for free from corporate sponsors. T-shirts, fliers, book marks, posters, business cards, mail outs, coffee cups, even mousepads with my book cover on them. My entire marketing plan which is now pretty extensive costs only about five dollars a month to cover the price of my website, that is it and nothing more.

3) When you have a purpose and are providing aid you directly relate with the community you are assisting. Since the organizations I have involved are spread out throughout the entire United States it has proved to be an excellent source of publicity, from radio, to newspapers, to magazines, even a couple of upcoming television shows. It has given my book an unbelievable pr hook in a market where it is difficult to get a story in a paper just because you recently published a book..

4) In basic when people read my book they are doing more than just being entertained, each copy bought goes directly to a great cause. The readers of the book are allowed to interweave their love of reading with a greater purpose in an interactive fashion. Once again a win-win situation.

I would like to expand a bit on the reading for charity contest idea. I think there are a world of ways to further the efforts and provide the joint benefit for some organizations out there, and assist me in my publication and book marketing endeavors. As a model however it has been incredibly successful, I think there are a lot of incredibly creative ways to market a book on a low budget like I originally had and turn it into a success. Once again I will state that giving something always brings in something, and in my case, it brought in an incredible book career.

Zachary Weiner is 23 and has been published in numerous magazines and newspapers. He is the author of the recent novel “City at Night” and the upcoming novels “A Simple fate of twists” Ballantine Books “The Experts Speak” Harper Collins.

Navel Gazing: How to Edit Yourself

Tuesday, November 25th, 2008

Writers around the world agree… it’s nearly impossible to edit your
own writing. We tend to fall in love with our words the moment they
burst onto the screen and, as you know, love is blind.

Obviously a professional proofreader/copy editor is the ideal
solution. It takes a village to raise a child, and it takes a village
of helpers to nurture a blockbuster like the one you’re writing. But
what if you can’t afford it or you’re under deadline pressure with no
time for a second opinion? This is not a happy situation, but in a
pinch you can edit your own material. Here’s how:

-After you’ve finished the piece and spell-checked it, give it a
rest. Wait as long as you can — sleep on it, if possible — before
coming back and proofing it for errors you missed the first time. Re-
read it at least ten times. Then read it backwards, last sentence to
first.

-Be ruthless. Whittle convoluted thoughts down into the fewest words
without losing the meaning. For example, “She received the support of
21 senators among those senators who were present for the vote”
becomes, “Twenty-one senators voted for her.”

-Root out passive statements and flip them into active ones. Your
Microsoft Word spell checker has a feature that will tell you how
many passive sentences are in a document. It even tells you what
grade level your piece is written for. Hint: Aim as low as possible –
below grade eight if you can. (To activate this feature, check the
box beside “show readability statistics” on the Spelling and Grammar
options page).

-One idea per sentence, please. You will immediately understand why
when you read the following lead from a published news story:

“Carlos Manuel Geronimo Alfonseca, one of the supposedly confessed
authors of the murder of the Senator, told journalists at the New
City courthouse when he was being taken back to his cell after being
questioned by Judge Nelson Rodriguez on the day of his hearing that
he was not the person who wore the mask when the Senator was
killed.” Come again?

-Check the math. In economics stories especially, it’s easy to drop
a zero and even easier to duplicate somebody else’s mistakes.

-Double check for double meanings. For example, the following site
description recently turned up in an ad for casinograpevine.com: “The
Casino News Portal for Women that Men Can’t Resist!” So it’s a
portal for women who are irresistible to the opposite sex or… ?

-Keep an eagle eye open for the little oopsy-daisies we all make.
Typing “you” instead of “your” is a common one. So is using “that”
instead of “who”. Example: “All the people THAT proofread their
stories carefully win Pulitzer Prizes.” If you need a grammar
booster shot, visit any of these sites:

http://www.webgrammar.com
http://ccc.commnet.edu/grammar/
http://www.grammarlady.com/faq.html
http://englishplus.com/grammar/

-Find out what style manual/guidelines are used by the publication
you’re writing for and be sure your piece agrees with them.

-Now do the first item on this list again. I can’t tell you how many
times I’ve caught my own bloopers or found a better way to phrase
something on the 15th or 20th pass!

So that’s how, in an emergency, you can do your own editing. Sure,
working without an editor can have its upside. It means never having
to say, “You corrupted my work, you creep!” But the downside is that
you will probably overlook mistakes that the “village” would have
caught.

Whenever possible, get a talented friend or a professional editor or
even an English major to lend an eyeball. Believe me, they aren’t
nearly as in love with your words as you are!

Joshian Quotations 2

Monday, November 24th, 2008

The Indian way is to think of Man to be a divine being, and as Man is obviously not a divine being, to take it as an utter contrast and rather treat him as a useless insect.

The principle of conservation of energy suggests that x’s freedom is y’s slavery.

Man is more social within than without.

Attitude is not everything. But without it everything is nothing.

Nothing is absolutely ignorant or absolutely wise.

Life is a waste of time.

Fear is the worst form of violence.

Anger is the most childish expression.

The existence of the universe is without any reason.

The root of everything is plurality.

Every creation is necessarily flawed.

Life could be practically worth but is philosophically pointless.

It’s my conjecture that the world is made up of three elements stated in the descending order of certainty and ascending order of necessity : Consciousness, Truth, and Irrationality.

Strong plays; Weak fights.

Fighting is a virtue of weak and a vice of strong.

It is not just human but rather a divine rule that being political is the best policy.

The greatest art is that the world is fundamentally an art with no artist.

The essence of the greatest form of life is not love, grief, solitude, or adventure. Its essence is that it’s an unending puzzle.

The concept of God is a byproduct of Man’s deepest fear and ignorance with the universe.

A true Englishman can do anything but philosophy.

French are arguably the most abstract species on earth.

The universe is fundamentally of three kinds : interpretable, interpreter, uninterpretable. The first kind is static, the second one is dynamic, and the third one is profoundest as well as absurd.

A worse news for a philosopher could be that the universe is fundamentally absurd. And the worst news is that the worse news is probably true.

In Europe it seems to be an etiquette to be white.

It’s an intriguing mistake to think that the oldest civilisation has the greatest wisdom.

Tolerance is basically a tricky way of minimising once own sufferings.

The world exists to let Man philosophise.

The virtue of an American is the minimisation of the exploitation of his brain and his vice is the maximisation of those of others.

The story of the world is necessarily and exclusively a story of exploitation and its future would be no different.

Doubt is an eternal nightmare of wisdom.

Nature, by its very nature, is brutal and partial. However, Man has somehow managed to transform the nature of its brutality and partiality.

Man is a philosophical animal.

At the heart of history there is a revolution.

The only way to be rich is to assume yourself to be poor.

The tragedy of the world lies in the fact that white is smart but bad and black is good but mad.

Whenever I see suffering in the world I tend to be a solipsist.

Truth is an appearance.

Even the greatest, deepest, and purest form of love is essentially an expression of exploitation.

Everything in the world is capable of arousing all sorts of emotions.

The most rational thing about the universe is that it is fundamentally irrational.

At its heart the universe has no reason.

The universe is a gigantic non-spatial computer.

The inducer of the greatest romantic feeling is the deepest philosophical question.

Even God is deceived by the unthinkable.

There are three paths to heavens: music, love, and philosophy. Music is the shortest but the least pleasant one. Love is the moderate one. And philosophy is the longest but the most pleasant one.

All the world is a game of mind, the mind which ultimately goes wrong.

God is the pseudo-governor of morality.

The answer to the greatest question is that it is unanswerable.

Man is a racist animal.

Good man feels that the world is alive because of goodness, but wise man knows that the world is essentially a business.

Mankind is a love-hate relationship.

Imperfection is a form of perfection and vice versa.

Nothing is ever original. All originality is relative.

For a humanist history is a tragedy; For a solipsist it is an entertainment.

History is a tragedy for a humanist, and an entertainment for a solipsist.

Nothing is responsible for anything.

The world is a notorious game of intelligent hide-and-seek.

Truth is the most mischievous thing in the world.

A true genius is the one who could be justified of writing an autobiography by the age 25.

A white man and a black man are really more different than how they appear to be.

Intelligence is a necessary condition for existence. In other words, to be is to be intelligent.

A racist is a statistician, not a logician.

Professionalism is an insistence on mechanisation of mankind.

One of the most desirable things to me is a truth in solipsism. That would make me not worried with the apparent suffering in the world and not envied with the pleasure.

A great mistake God made is that he introduced madness in the world.

It might sound ridiculous but ultraviolet rays are responsible for virtually all of the misery, suffering, and hatred in the world.

Be not a dictator; you will be caught and punished. Be not a peacemaker; you will be misunderstood and assassinated. Be like a fox; and you will be praised and feared.

England is a fine country except the insularity, racism, and prejudice it incorporates.

England, an incorporator of insularity, racism, and prejudice, is a fine country except its incorporation.

Language is a necessary medium for imperfect intelligence.

The world ruined itself with its existence.

The only thing preoccupying me in my solitude is solitude itself.

I think the reason why too many great men were homosexual is that they were wise enough to know how dull and uninteresting a woman is.

If you look from a westerner’s perspective it won’t take you long to find that every Chinese is Gautama Buddha and every Indian is Mahatma Gandhi.

Racism does not make sense because even if race x is superior to race y it is not necessary that every person from race x is superior to every person from race y. For example, if for one moment it’s assumed that Aryans are superior to Jews, very few Aryans, if at all, are superior to Albert Einstein.

Racism is a tragic mistake of thought that every person from race x is necessarily superior to every person from race y.

The world is unfair. It demands ruthlessness for emotions.

To speak wise is to speak like a mathematician.

Morality is a most nonsensical and yet a most respected state of mind.

The difference between east and west is the difference in the attitude of their women about their breasts. A woman from the east thinks that breasts are something women should be ashamed of; a woman from the west thinks that breasts are something women should be proud of.

All confidences are overconfidences.

Confidence is always necessarily overconfidence.

Behind the shadows of peace there is a story of bloodshed.

My experience suggests me that easier a language more complex is its native speaker.

Despite the great sense it makes it is logically impossible to verify or falsify solipsism.

Thorough optimism is the foremost sign of a cultured mind.

Man is a cultured animal which takes pride in making fun out of other cultures.

What makes one man is a vision and courage to change the world.

There are many wonderful things in the world : food, love, philosophy which have one thing in common: they make you forget anything else; except one thing: music which has the power to ignite all sorts of emotions one by one.

Morality makes strong weak and vice versa.

It makes no sense to say ‘I’m a solipsist’, because if your belief is true there is no one to understand it and if you are wrong then you are just exposing your logical shortcomings.

All the present is either history or future.

Every great creator has a great destroyer within.

There is a hope in living because there is science and there is a point in living because there is art.

Material prosperity of a society is the foremost and often unseen sign of its economic downfall to come.

Secrecy is the most secretive aspect of the universe.

Islam is a religion of peace. It is peaceful at its conclusion. But to reach that conclusion, I suspect, it obsessively and intolerantly demands to put up a weapon.

Heaven occupied by the most earthly people. -(on England)

Man is both the strongest and the weakest animal. He is strongest because he is the most intelligent and weakest because there are maximum number of situations capable of upsetting him.

Man is the most delicate animal.

Morals ruin the men of virtue.

A revolution is a rapid evolution.

If freedom is short of weapons we must compensate with willpower. (-Adolf Hitler)

Western culture is an appearance; Eastern culture is a reality.
In west culture is an appearance. In east it is a reality.

Brain kills heart and vice versa.

The 21st century began with a war between an advanced cunning culture and a primordial, religiously obsessive one. And I fear it will end with the end of all possible ones.

Man is a flawed, troublemaker, and pathetic animal.

The Eiffel Tower is a majestic philosophical monumental representation of the entire humanity being intellectually challenged by the mighty starry heavens of divinity.

All food is Indian.

A prophet is a divine puppet.

The music that does not make you think is not music.

Mahatma Gandhi: A great pacific terrorist.

If You Are Single Then a Great Call Girl Should Help

Sunday, November 23rd, 2008

Being without a girl in the city where you get relationships in every bar and disco can be a horrible feeling. I personally know of 4 single friends who go on dates each and every month and each month they are sad because they are still not with a lady friend. In London there are an extensive collection of fierce escorts, these phenomenal working girls are the perfect gift to give yourself if you are without a partner.

Escorts in the capital city of the UK are beautiful and elegant and have a high education making them excellent companions as well as wonderful lovers. The call girls in London are traditionally more pricey than anywhere else like Manchester, the reason for this is the working girls tend to be of a higher class.

Escorts have been made celebrated with the tv show Secret Diary with the elegant Billie Piper. In the television series the escort call girl is made out to be glamorous and very rich and always looking beautiful. Secret Diary is a top rated show in the United Kingdom and many boys have seen it and have now booked an escort. This has helped to fuel the rise in single males feeling much happier and excited about the choice of women a single man has in London. You can always have a great night in with a London Escort.

GIVING YOUR BUSINESS LETTERS A ‘KICK-BUTT’ CLOSE

Saturday, November 22nd, 2008

So you write this terrific Imcom. (An Imcom is any
important business communication such as a
letter, memo, proposal or report.)

It sings. It sells. And it flops!

What happened? You dribbled away your close. You whispered
instead of shouting. You hung nice instead of tough. It
never pays.

So, today, let’s learn how to ‘kick-butt’ when you close
an Imcom to your boss or anyone else up the command chain.

WHAT ACTION DO YOU WANT YOUR TARGET TO TAKE?

Forgive me. This seems almost too elementary to mention.
But I’m convinced that 90% of the people who write an Imcom
don’t give this question much serious thought.

It’s a question you should ask yourself before writing the
first word of your Imcom. What EXACTLY do you want the
target to do? Call you? Bounce your idea further up the
command chain? Give you the go-ahead on a project?

Don’t assume the target will know what you want. I learned
this years ago when writing sales copy. I would tell the
prospect to fill out the reply card or order form. I would
tell him to use the postage-free reply envelope. But so
help me, if I didn’t mention putting the envelope in the
mail…response dropped.

The only thing I can figure is that we are not routine
thinkers. So you have to be the target’s routine thinker if
you want a timely response.

BE DIRECT, BE FORCEFUL AND SUGGEST URGENCY

Most people don’t close effectively because they’re afraid
of offending someone. Trust me. This is not a problem.

Let’s say you are writing a proposal for your boss to get
approval for a new research program. You’ve gone through
all the why’s and where’s. It’s time for a kick-butt close.

Obviously, the action you want is a go-ahead approval and
you want it NOW! You don’t want your fantastic idea sitting
in someone’s ‘Whenever’ box for five months.

Still, the target is your boss so you want to be a little
tactful. Here is how you might write your close:

“By starting immediately on this project, I estimate we
can have positive results to show the Executive Board at
their next meeting in June. I have an open schedule
tomorrow afternoon and could meet with you to discuss
details. If you are available, have Alice call me about a
time that would be convenient for you.”

Notice how cleverly you have constructed your close. You
have inserted a note of urgency without being demanding.
You have also lifted the burden of response from the target
and placed it on someone else. This could be a secretary or
assistant.

The easier you make it for a target to respond, the
quicker you’ll get that reply.

You could also take the necessity of responding completely
off the target’s shoulder by volunteering to do the follow-
up.

“I’ll call you tomorrow morning, after you’ve had an
opportunity to read through my proposal. We can then set up
a time to discuss details.”

Notice that you haven’t even suggested that your proposal
might not be accepted. From a psychological standpoint,
this makes the refusal, if there is one, more difficult.
Overcoming a positive with a negative generally takes extra
effort.

Writing a close for Imcoms going to associates or
subordinates, requires a bit different approach. I’ll cover
that type of close in future Imcom coaching articles.

Just remember, no matter who you are talking to, spell out
exactly what action you want taken. And try to insert a
note of urgency. Faint heart never won a fair response.
(Or, something like that.)

Making Peace With The Unknown

Saturday, November 22nd, 2008

“It’ll be OK”. “Everything will work out for the best.” “You’ll be just fine.” How often do we quickly utter these words to comfort ourselves or someone else? How do we really know it’ll be ok? Are we (at least on some subconscious level) simply reassuring ourselves that whatever happens won’t break us?

Now I know that is a tough paragraph to grasp, so feel free to read it over a few times out loud. Do we ever really know anything? Can we be sure? I know for me indecision and being stuck is often the result of fear. Fear of the unknown. “What if?” And as any good therapist will tell you, you could “what if” yourself to death and never do a blessed thing with your life because you’re too afraid and panic stricken to act.

What got me thinking about this topic once again was the death of the beloved character Dana Fairbanks on The L Word. Yes, I know it is just a television show, and no one need remind me that at the end of the day the actress got up, went home, and moved on with her career. However, if art imitates life and a drama is meant to affect you as it tells real-life stories in its own unique way, why shouldn’t I be affected by it? Isn’t that a measure of success in the creative medium – the emotional impact it has on people?

For those of you not familiar with the story, Dana was a super-healthy, professional athlete who finds a lump in her breast, undergoes a mastectomy, and goes through chemotherapy. While she appears to be recovering (and all odds say she should recover fully), her chemo-weakened immune system succumbs to an infection and she dies at the ripe young age of 32 a few weeks after her surgery.

What continues to strike me about this story, beyond the obvious, was the dialogue along the way between her and those who loved her. Whether it is her lover telling her “it’ll be ok” or good friends saying “she’ll be fine” or even the character herself making plans for her comeback, it begged the question in my mind as they said it – how do you know that?? Lest you think I am a hopeless pessimist, keep in mind I spent most of my life and upbringing partaking in left-brain pursuits. Everything follows logic, formulas, and expected outcomes. As I’ve come to learn over the years, real life surely throws rain on that expectation parade. So, I’m not pessimistic, only overly analytical!

This left me with the stunning conclusion – no one really knows! That’s right, not me, not you, and not the person sitting next to you. We just don’t know for sure what any outcome will be or even if we’ll be alive tomorrow. In Raphael Cushnir’s book Setting Your Heart on Fire: The Seven Invitations to Liberate Your Life, he incites us to “Live Like You’re Dying”. He challenges the reader to be conscious of the fact that death may be around the corner and make peace with it. Who knows, maybe today is your day. In a carpe diem sort of way he invites us to use this knowledge to free us from the doubt, fear, and distraction that keeps most of us from living each day fully.

It Is All OK

I think the biggest lesson in all this is – whatever happens is OK. Even the things that don’t seem are simply part of life’s experiences OK (let’s face it, who wants a loved one to be ill or die). Sometimes life’s experiences are grand, sometimes tragic, and oftentimes somewhere in between. We experience them, and then move through them in whatever way we need to. It is only when we let fear of the unknown paralyze us that it is really not ok.

Don’t Wait

Someday is not a day on the calendar. So, for all those things you say you’ll do “someday”, start penciling them in. Don’t wait until it is too late to do what you say you want to do. Start with the following exercise:

  • Make a list of 100 things you most want to do in your lifetime
  • Write down the names of all the people you love and care deeply about

Starting today, tell each of those people you love them. Call them up, write a letter, or drop by, but simply tell them how you feel. Don’t assume they already know. Even if they do know, it is always nice to hear! You never know when the day will come that you won’t have that opportunity, so seize it.

Then, read through your list of 100 things you want to do and start doing some of them. Start planning the big ones. Throw caution to the wind and do some of the less-involved ones right away. The only way they will ever become reality is if you make them a priority and just do it.

Friday, November 21st, 2008

One of the best ways to blow someone’s winning streak during a tennis game is to comment on how great they are doing. Your comment will kick in their left brain’s inner critic which will zap their flow and change their focus. In tennis, this is an underhanded type of gamesmanship.

In life, it happens to each of us all the time. Even to writers.

In writing, the same thing occurs as soon as the right side of the brain, the right hemisphere, gets a break, the left side begins editorializing. Even if the left side compliments you on your progress or the time you committed, it still zaps the flow. Flow stops, hiccups, and the writing or idea doesn’t get to the next step.

This is an event that affects us all in more than just writing.

There is not any particular timeframe when this occurs either. It may occur when you are writing something short, like an article, memo, or email. Or it might not occur until the chapter six of your book. This is why the freewriting exercise works so well. It allows your right brain to tell the left side to shut up for a particular amount of time.

There is actually only one way to get the writing flowing again. It is by doing something unfamiliar. When you are doing something unfamiliar the left side doesn’t know how to logically respond. The left side then can’t be its helpful self. Flow, intuition, and ideas naturally return with a renewed rhythm.

Whenever I am trying to describe something, my logic side kicks in and brings the next action to a halt. The self talk begins to say, “How can any word begin describing this beautiful sunrise?” Since drawing isn’t a familiar item for me, I pull out a few drawing pencils or a water color brush and play. The drawing isn’t something I do often. If I did, it would then become familiar and that self would stop me. It doesn’t take but a few minutes of doing something unfamiliar before the flow flourishes again and I am able to return to the description or writing.

Always remember, all the words we use in our first draft look like ordinary words. It isn’t until later that their appearance changes to extraordinary.

The left self is always telling us that every day scenes or objects are just ordinary.. A mere beer bottle on the side of the road can receive a message, “So what.” When we push the situation we usually ask, “How can I make this come alive?” By doing something unfamiliar in the mind or in some type of action we can release the right side to the freedom to find the words. Do so by seeing the ordinary. Describing the ordinary. At this moment you begin using both sides of the brain. I guarantee that whatever you write will never be ordinary. Extraordinary writing is ordinary writing practiced.

Content Syndication Through RSS Feeds

Thursday, November 20th, 2008

Delivering regularly updated content to website visitors is easier through RSS resources.

RSS, also known as Rich Site Summary or Really Simple Syndication, has been used for years by online visitors. However, it has only recently begun to gain popularity among webmasters as a means of providing visitors with constantly refreshed content. These feeds were originally developed to deliver updated news more quickly, but they have since evolved to allow for nearly instantaneous updates of many types of information.

Growing websites can benefit from RSS feeds since they allow for fresh copy to be updated regularly online. Once the RSS feeds are inserted into the web pages, they provide a steady stream of syndicated content updated continuously. Most RSS feeds consist of a headline, content summary, and a link to the actual online article. They are typically composed in XML, a markup language similar to HTML, to allow webmasters to manipulate and integrate new copy into their existing site pages.

The increased popularity of these RSS feeds have benefited online sites as they the have helped to drive increased traffic and search engine ranking results. The fact that the syndicated content is changing constantly in RSS feeds means that search engine spiders are likely to visit and index your website pages more often. RSS feeds also keep webmasters from having to worry about updating their content, and visitors can rely on fresh articles being available to read whenever they want. Articles are also easy to locate on RSS feeds, as they can be categorized for easy navigation. This increases the chances of receiving visitors from other sites.

While modern technology has made integrating RSS feeds into one’s website easier, contributing content to RSS feeds remains a bit more complex. To effectively post copy onto RSS feeds, you first need an RSS program that will allow you to format your content for syndication. If you are a professional web developer, for example, you might be interested in creating your own XML files to display content. This option will allow for more flexibility in the way content is displayed. If you lack the online knowledge to understand how to use XML, you might want to invest in one of the many RSS software programs that allow users to create and publish syndicated content without having to use any XML language at all.

One of the most popular software programs is FeedForAll, which is an inexpensive yet effective tool for developing and maintaining an RSS feed. This program, and others like it, allows users to utilize their own syndicated content, or to download existing feeds from the internet. It also provides users with the ability to manually edit their site to include pictures and colors which may create a more exciting online experience for customers.

As the need for the internet to provide instantaneous access to a wide variety of information continues to grow, RSS feeds have become a critical component of information distribution. It is likely that RSS feeds will serve as an important tool for sharing information on the web for years to come and could, in the not too distant future, even begin to rival e-mails as the preferred method of knowledge sharing. Therefore, understanding how best to utilize RSS feeds into your website may have lasting, positive effects on your business’ growth.
